Why Prayer Before Business (Not After)

Most men who incorporate faith into their professional lives do it reactively — they pray when things go wrong, give thanks when things go right. The Raise the Standard system inverts this. Prayer before business means you enter every negotiation, every board meeting, every high-stakes decision with the alignment question already answered: what does God have me here to do?

That question changes the posture from which all decisions are made. The man who has already answered it in the morning does not need to figure it out under pressure in the afternoon.

The 4:45 AM Faith Protocol

• Immediately upon waking: Prayer. Before the phone. Before the news. Before markets. The first thing that enters your mind in the morning shapes the operating system for the day. Choose deliberately.
• Scripture before strategy. I read Scripture every morning before reviewing business positions. This is not about time — it takes 10-15 minutes. It is about sequencing. The wisdom in Scripture preempts the reactive anxiety that comes from immediately entering the information environment of markets and email.
• Gratitude and alignment. The final element of the morning faith practice is alignment — naming what I am building and why, and confirming that it is aligned with what God would have me do.

By the time I am reviewing crude oil positions at 6:30 AM, the faith foundation is already set for the day. That foundation does not waver when the market moves against a position or when a deal falls apart. It holds. That is what standards do.
